Hap Magee has a fairly storied tradition. At the park entrance, a barn façade commemorates the park’s previous existence as a longhorn steer ranch. The site was a summer camp for San Francisco orphans, referred to as Camp Swain until the cattle called it home. Look for a drinking fountain with a plaque and a brick representation of children playing, commemorating Camp Swain.

The water element of Hap Magee is a mixture of metal tubes forming a tunnel with water spraying inside as children run through, and water spraying from the ground. On a random circuit, a motion sensor activates the water element. (For more information, see FAQs for water features in the right-hand column.) This 17-acre park also has walking trails, separate play areas for younger and older children, picnic areas, and a dog park.
