Park Hap Magee Ranch (1025 La Gonda Way). Hap Magee has a fairly storied history. A barn facade at the entrance to the park commemorates the park’s past life as a longhorn steering ranch. The site had been a summer camp for San Francisco children, known as Camp Swain, before the cattle called it home. Look for a drinking fountain with a plaque to commemorate Camp Swain and a brick rendering of children playing.
The water feature of Hap Magee is a combination of metal tubes that form a tunnel with water spraying inside as children run through it, and water spraying from the ground. The water feature is activated by a motion sensor on a random circuit.
There are also walking trails in this 17-acre park, separate play areas for younger and older children, picnic areas and a dog park.
Hap Magee Ranch Park is a peaceful and well-located park suitable for families with small children, dogs, and recreational hikers along the nearby trails. On weekdays there is a relaxed atmosphere, with plenty of space to have a fun picnic. An outdoor experience from the East Bay!
One of the area ‘s finest off leash dog parks in the East Bay behind the center. There are two “corrals”-small (less than 20 lbs) dogs and big (more than 20 lbs) dogs. Lots of grass for running around and making new friends (both 4 legged and 2 legged). Purify! Owners clean up really well after their dogs. The owners are also very protective of their dogs if there was any dispute or just keep an eye out.
City of Danville is adding more wooden benches over the years to sit at either corral. And a lot of leaves. Springtime is a wonderful time to visit, as the grass is super green and the flourishing trees are in full bloom.
Also at each corral and doggy bag dispenser and garbage cans in the park are doggy water fountains.
An informal Yappy hour(s) is conducted during the year on Friday nights. People BYOB playing as their babies in the fur. Some even bring snack foods and appetizers to accompany their drinks. When the nights get colder, people stay up until it gets dark.
This is a great spot to bring along your children and pets. There is a huge dog park and a small park for the dogs. There are play structures for older children along the way, and one for babies. There is a gravel walking path circling the parks and clubhouse. It is also a nice spot to get photos taken. Definitely a must-visit park.
