Parks in Danville, California

Danville was first populated by Native Americans, often referred to as the “Heart of the San Ramon Valley,” who lived near creeks and camped in the summer on Mount Diablo. Later, it was part of the grazing land of Mission San José and a Mexican grant of land named Rancho San Ramon.

Over 167 acres of parkland is owned and managed by the Town of Danville, much of which is used for active recreation. Six community parks have facilities such as play equipment for children, sports fields, picnic areas, bocce ball courts, a dog park, and trails for walking.

35 baseball/softball fields and 31 soccer/lacrosse fields are managed for community use by the town of Danville. At three community parks and eleven schools, sports fields are situated. The town of Danville and San Ramon Valley Unified School District manages these multi-use sports field facilities. For Danville, ballfields are significant, but so are the parks’ arts and recreational activities, such as the popular annual Music in the Park.

With the Las Trampas Ridge to the west and the Diablo Range to the east, Danville is located in a narrow portion of the San Ramon Valley. Danville’s most prominent landmark is the backdrop of Mount Diablo, which stands at 3,849 feet (1,173 m) to the east and provides Danville and surrounding towns and cities with a picturesque backdrop. Some of the Mount Diablo slopes are drained by Sycamore Creek and flow through Danville.

The unincorporated town of Alamo lies in the uppermost reaches of the San Ramon Valley to the north of Danville and stretches into the surrounding hills. Another wealthy suburb, San Ramon, borders Danville to the south.
